Common Uses

Used for painted cabinet doors, furniture panels, wainscoting, architectural moulding, shelving, and CNC-routed decorative panels. Premium MDF is the preferred substrate for any painted interior application where a completely smooth, grain-free surface is the standard.

Pro Tips

  • Premium MDF is a paint-only material. It does not accept stain and will swell if exposed to moisture. Use Moisture Resistant MDF (also available at Windsor Plywood) for kitchen and bathroom cabinet applications.
  • Seal all cut edges and routed profiles with primer before painting. Cut MDF edges are porous and absorb paint unevenly without sealing.
  • Use carbide-tipped router bits and saw blades when machining MDF. The resin content dulls standard steel tooling faster than solid wood.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Premium MDF and standard MDF?
Premium grade has higher density consistency, fewer internal voids, and a smoother surface. It produces cleaner routed profiles and a better painted finish than standard grade.

Can I use MDF in a bathroom?
Standard MDF is not moisture-resistant. For bathroom and kitchen applications, use Moisture Resistant MDF, available at Windsor Plywood.
