Particleboard is an engineered wood panel made from wood chips bonded with resin under heat and pressure. It provides a flat, stable substrate for laminate countertops, flat-pack furniture, shelving, and any application where the panel will be covered with laminate, veneer, or paint. Used as a substrate for laminate countertops, flat-pack furniture construction, shelving (when laminated or painted), and any application where a flat, affordable panel will be covered with a decorative surface.
Is particleboard strong enough for shelving?
Particleboard shelves sag more readily than plywood or MDF under heavy loads. Limit unsupported span to 24" for loaded shelving, or use a thicker panel and add edge banding for stiffness.
