Common Uses

Used as a substrate for laminate countertops, flat-pack furniture construction, shelving (when laminated or painted), and any application where a flat, affordable panel will be covered with a decorative surface.

Pro Tips

  • Particleboard is not moisture-resistant. Do not use in wet areas or where the panel will be exposed to standing water. Swelling is rapid and irreversible.
  • All edges must be sealed or edge-banded before installation. Exposed particleboard edges absorb moisture and swell.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is particleboard strong enough for shelving?
Particleboard shelves sag more readily than plywood or MDF under heavy loads. Limit unsupported span to 24" for loaded shelving, or use a thicker panel and add edge banding for stiffness.
