Create a Timeless Beer Flight Board With Just One Board

Looking for a quick, satisfying shop project? This beer flight is a fun build that’s great practice for drilling clean holes and shaping smooth curves. We recommend using a drill press for straight, consistent holes. Use any wood you like, hardwood is a popular choice. The full-size template is on page two of the downloadable plan (you may need to print on two pages and tape together).

• 2-1/4" Forstner bit
• Center punch
• Band saw or jig saw
• Spindle sander
• Sandpaper

Step-by-Step Build Instructions

• Step 1: Transfer the Template
  Cut out the full-size template and adhere it to your workpiece in the desired position with tape.
  
  
• Step 2: Mark Hole Centers
  Use a center punch on every hole position to help align the drill bit accurately.
  
  
• Step 3: Drill the Holes
  With a 2-1/4" Forstner bit in the drill press, drill each hole to about 1/4" depth (or to your required depth).
  
  
• Step 4: Remove the Template
  Scrape or sand off any remaining paper and adhesive.
  
  
• Step 5: Shape the Profile
  Rough-cut the profile using a band saw or jig saw, then refine the curves with a spindle sander.
  
  
• Step 6: Finish It Up
  Sand smooth and apply your finish of choice. Let cure fully before use.
