Tropical marine-grade plywood is manufactured from tropical hardwood species using waterproof phenol-formaldehyde adhesive, with all-hardwood veneer cores and no voids. It is used for boat building, marine structures, docks, exterior construction in extreme moisture environments, and any application requiring plywood with maximum moisture resistance, structural integrity, and durability.

Both marine and exterior grades use waterproof adhesive, but marine-grade specifies that all veneers are free of voids and knots, producing a full-strength panel throughout. Exterior-grade plywood allows voids in interior plies, which can trap moisture and cause internal delamination in severe wet conditions. For boat building and structural marine applications, the void-free requirement of marine grade is essential.

Tropical marine plywood is typically manufactured from Meranti (Shorea spp.) or similar tropical hardwood species from Southeast Asia that have been used for marine plywood production for decades. The species group provides the hardness, durability, and dimensional stability suited to marine applications.
