Working with Yellow Cedar Burl

James Christensen of AB, Canada recently acquired this massive burl from the Windsor Plywood Edmonton South store and wanted to share his project: A Yellow Cedar Burl Pedestal Bowl. He had this to say:

I bought this beautiful Yellow Cedar burl from Edmonton Southside Store. It was a bit bigger than I thought, so I had to trim it to fit my 18″ lathe. It was so lopsided that I could only start turning at 200rpm, making for a rough bit of turning initially. Turned it into a pedestal bowl and joined to a Lacewood base. I then finished it with a sanding sealer and lacquer. Not the best work I have done but definitely the most spectacular wood I have turned.
