Sherwood Park’s Pecky Cedar Barn Door Project

Colin’s crew from the Windsor Plywood Sherwood Park store under took a big project. They created a custom-made barn door from Pecky Cedar lumber. The materials required for the project was: 2″ x 8″ Pecky Cedar planks, G-Tape, Titebond glue, Ecopoxy metallics, 8 litres of resin, wooden dominos, a Festool Domino Joiner and many hours, the project was completed for the customer.

What is Pecky Wood?

Pecky wood features areas or pockets of softer or decaying wood, often caused by natural fungus usually found in older trees. This natural process can greatly enhance the visual appeal of the wood. A similar process, spalted wood, refers to very unique surface discolouration that is also very highly desired by high-end furniture makers. For decorative projects, woodworkers will clean out the voids and use fillers or ecopoxy products, then sand and stain or re-seal the surface
